Besides May’s primary profession of being a singer, she is also a composer member of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH). She studied Composition and Arrangement in the esteemed Dick Grove School of Music in California. Thereafter, she was invited to become the contract composer of the Universal Music Publishing Taiwan, publishing around 30 pop songs for their artists in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
In recent years, it has come to May’s attention that there is an increasing demand to local children’s songs. She has then started her endeavor to write contemporary children songs that integrate her expert knowledge in music and psychology, instilling children with positive messages with songs that they could enjoy singing and dancing with. She has published 7 CD/DVDs to date, and many of her songs are widely used in kindergartens, primary schools and churches. “Goodbye, Mother and Father”, a song that she wrote for the orphans in Sichuan Earthquake, also took the honor of the Best Lyrics of the Year in TVB Children Golden Music Award.
She has been commissioned recently by the reputable publishing company in Hong Kong, Educational Publishing House, to tailor make a series of children songs for their new curriculum on character learning. Based on the themes for each chapter, with the understanding of toddlers’ developmental characteristics and needs, May has skillfully created new happy songs for toddlers to learn with joy and fun.
